Arun Ramamurthy is a Brooklyn-based violinist who is making his mark in Indian Classical and World music. Disciple of the renowned violinists Dr. Mysore Manjunath & Sri Mysore Nagaraj, Arun has become one of the most in-demand violinists in the US. A versatile musician and organizer, Arun is at the forefront of the Indian music scene in New York City. He has the good fortune to perform with artists such as Padma Vibushan Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, T.N. Seshagopalan, T. Bhaktavatsalam, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Pandit Ramesh Misra and others.
Born and raised in the US, Arun utilizes his Carnatic training to collaborate with western musicians, recording & performing with artists from various genres. Arun curates the innovative series, “Carnatic Sundays” at the well-known jazz venue Cornelia Street Café in NYC, a concert series dedicated to increasing exposure for Carnatic music to wider audiences. The series has received critical acclaim, featured on the cover of the The Hindu's Arts section during this past year's December season in Chennai. He is also a founding member of the Brooklyn Raga Massive, a collective of NY based musicians with the goal of propagating Indian Classical music. Arun's music has brought him to prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and many more. Arun was able to share his music with over 1,500 children as part of Carnegie Hall's Global Encounters program in 2010, teaching in schools all over NYC.
